Bill Payment Scam
CDE Lightband has recently had several reports of individuals calling them and falsley claiming their power will be disconnected unless payment is made.These impersonaters instruct customers to purchase prepaid credit cards and to call back to a different phone number and provide a PIN or other personal information.They also use a tactic called “spoofing” to manipulate the Caller ID displayed phone number so that it appears to be a CDE Lightband number. CDE Lightband uses multiple ways to contact cutomers regarding past due bills, but will never demand immediate payment. Spyware
Most recently, CDE Lightband has received reports from customers receiving a “pop up” on both their laptop and desktop computers. The “pop up” stated it was from CDE Lightband and it was very important the user contact CDE Lightband immediately regarding spyware. A toll free number was listed as 888-252-5733. One customer called the number but was cautious. The person on the phone requested information that would allow remote access into the customer’s computer in order to “diagnose problems”, for example, spyware or malware. CDE Lightband does not run any diagnostics or virus related scans on any customer equipment, including their computers or wireless routers. If you receive one of these “pop up” messages, please contact CDE Lightband tech support at 931-553-7300 immediately. Please do not call any number listed on the “pop up message.
